More storage area cleanup..........

Has anyone any need for a complete (well, almost complete, the head is cracked) engine, with front mount, flywheel, clutch and bell-housing?

This engine came out of a '34 Dodge light panel truck, some years ago, and should be generally the same as '34 Ply or '33 Dodge. I think, but am not positive, that the '34 Dodge light trucks were originally fitted with 201 engines, same as '33 Dodge passenger, or '34 Ply.

If I remember the story, the truck itself was stored away in a barn, back sometime in the '40's, possibly cos of the cracked head, possibly for some other long-forgotten reason. A few years ago, the truck was 'exhumed', so to speak, from this dead storage, and its owner decided to fit a later engine, so we got the old original engine.

As I recall, the engine would turn over freely, apparently had low mileage (very little ridge at the tops of the bores) and is still standard size, never rebuilt.

There's a fair chance that this engine would run alright if it were simply taken apart and cleaned up/desludged, and a good head found for it.

I've no idea as to what it should be worth, so I'd listen to any reasonable offer for it, or would trade for anything we can use.

I'd have no problem with someone stripping that engine down here, and checking out the bores, crank, etc.

If, as I think I remember, the bores are still standard, and not worn, this one might build up as an especially nice original engine.

Just a word of caution on this engine's application.  The engine Dodge used , apart from internal dimensions and some minor changes is  the same from 34- up. In other words, the same head gasket will fit up to 1950, at least.  The Plymouth engine, 201 also shares this head gasket but from 35  on up.

The 33-34 Plymouth is slightly narrower across the cylinder head and uses a different gasket, even though it may be a 201. This engine may have been used  by Dodge in 33. This probably explains why a cylinder head replacement was never found.

It is probably a very worthy engine for any one who needs it, but its application is not as broad as other engines used at that time.    (I do have a gasket, if anyone needs it.)

Yes, exactly so, this engine has a rather limited application. It does have the smaller pattern head of the '33 Dodge passenger, and '33-'34 Ply passenger engines. Apparently, the Dodge division used the '33 passenger 201 for at least some of the light truck production in '34.

If I remember correctly, Tod mentioned an externally visible difference in the oiling system between '33 and '34 Ply engines, as well.

All that said, it would be nice if someone might be interested in it, if only to have an original, or very nearly original, spare engine for a '33-'34 car.
