This much I can tell you, there were 9189 model 383 were produced for that model year.
Production started in April of 1930 and ended in June of 1931.
This information is out of the "Standard Catalog of Chrysler" from 1924 thru 1990

See my page at http://www.ply33.com/Models/30-U/

Which the search string "1930 Plymouth 30-U" in Google pulls up as the first hit. :)

Unless, of course you are referring to a Mode U built (or first registered) in 1930. That page is at:

http://www.ply33.com/Models/U/

Which does not show up in the first couple of pages returned by the Google search "1930 Plymouth U". :(

Plymouth did not do model years back then but generally the U is considered a 1929 nowadays even though it was built until April of 1930.

I  DONT KNOW IF IT IS A DEFINITE  1930. ALL I KNOW IS THAT IT IS A 3 WINDOW COUPE AND IS IN ORIGINAL CONDITION  RIGHT DOWN TO THE  WOODEN SPOKE WHEELS.I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT SELLING IT BUT I DONT KNOW WHAT IT IS WORTH AT THIS TIME IT DOES RUN AND DRIVE ALTHOUGH IT DOES NEED WORK .I ACTUALLY BOUGHT IT TO STREET ROD  BECAUSE I HAVE SOME PLYMOUTH RUNNING GEAR INCLUDING A HEMI IN A 1955 CHRYSLER NEW YORKER.I HAVE VISITED YOUE WEBSITE BUT I AM LOOKING FOR  MORE INFO BECAUSE I HAVE NOT SEEN  ANY OTHER OF THESE CARS WITH  THE SAME CHRYSLER PLYMOUTH  EMBLEM ON THE RADIATOR  AT ANY OF THE MANY SHOWS I HAVE BEEN TO

The wooden spoke wheels were standard equipment thru 1931

The serial number should be on the right door post if this car is a 1930
The  serial numbers start with 1500001 ending with 1570188
Vehicles above 1530245 are considered 1931's

Hope this helps,
Bob

Hi, I own a 28 Plymouth Cpe. The serial number is on the dash board in the center of the Plymouth emblem. It is very hard to make out, it starts at the top with 2 letters 3 numbers and ends with one number. This is for 28 and 29. I don't know about 30. All three years were identical except some engine changes in late 30. Send me some pictures at Billnlana@msn. Maybe I can help you out. The business cpe is very rare. There are only 3 know to exist in 1928. Have only run across 3 or 4 29's. Don't cut it up.  Need any other info, email me. Bill

I also own a 1928, but mine is a two door sedan.  My serial number is slightly different....it ends a letter; HE402S.  Mine is supposedly a very early 28 built at the beginning of production.

If the radiator emblem reads "Chrysler Plymouth" - then the car is a 1928 Model Q.  The 28 Q & 29 U had the serial number on the medallion on the center of the dashboard, using three letters and three numbers, for example RC345Y or Y345RW.   The 30U had a 7 digit serial number on the right front door post.

Another way you can tell if the car is a 28, the exhaust will come off the back side of the engine which is the only year they did it that way which also indicates a Maxwell engine. In 1929 the exhaust came off the front of the manifold and ran back under the engine to the rear of the car. Still see if you can locate the serial #. I would like to know if another 28 Business cpe has been found. Thanks Bill
