Title: I think I've finally got my brake problem fixed.
Post by: 40mopar on March 11, 2008, 02:08:22 PM
After years of frustration and a complete overhaul of every part except the T fitting that sits on top of the rear end, not to mention at least 10 failed attempts at bleeding the brakes,  I think I have finally licked my brake problem.

Yesterday I have pressurized the system to 20 lbs. and it seemed to be holding.  It looks like the culprit was one of the lines coming out of the T fitting on the rear end.  Also suprisingly enough after I pressurized the system, the top of the master cylinder started weeping significantly.  I tightened up the bolts on top of the cylinder, and it seems that I have solved all the potential leaking areas.  I then bled the brakes and got a pedal that I feel I could stop the car with....this is something that has never happened.

I woke up this morning and the pressure had dropped down to about 17 lbs.  I couldn't check the pedal cause I didn't want to chance getting dirty on my way to work.

I'm hoping that the pressure drop is temperature related. Yesterday when I bled the brakes. The temp outside was about 64 degrees.  Last night we dropped down to about 32 degrees and I'm thinking that the colder temps reduced the tank pressure.  I'm hoping that the pressure drop is exaggerated with air and that the fluid in the system will not be impacted as much if at all.   Maybe I'm overthinking all of this, because of the historical experience that I've had with these brakes.  I'm hoping that when I get home this evening the pressure will have rebounded to about 20 lbs, and that the pedal will still be solid.

Omari;
Glad you are making progress. Did you get the last link I sent you on the break tool?

Don I did but when I looked at the auction the kit looked incomplete. I wish I knew of a place that I could buy one new.  However, all is not lost I may be replicating some of the homemade tools I've seen out there to adjust the brakes.   Here are a couple of good ones that I've seen.
