I am getting ready to have the body of my '41 Plymouth painted. The club '41 tech advisor (who has been a real help along the way) says the bottom of the car was painted the body color. When I took the gas tank down and removed some other hangers, etc, the bottom of the car appeared to have been gloss black. The firewall and all other areas were body color. Does anyone have any knowledge about the color of the bottom...or was that dependent on factory, etc. My body is not a Briggs Body. The firewall tag says it was built by Chrysler Motor Company. I have checked other Auxilary Seat Coupes, like mine, and none of them have the Briggs tag. Apparently this particular body style was built in a different factory. Is it possible that the Briggs bodies were painted body color on the bottom and the Chrysler Motor Company bodies were painted black on the bottom?

Without having the original build card to tell you where the body was made, I'm making an "educated" supposition. Over the years, Dodge supplied coupe bodies to Plymouth. Therefore it would stand to reason that the auxiliary seat coupe body was supplied by Dodge. I only have a couple of '40 build cards in my collection but only for the two door and 7-passenger body types. Other build cards I have from 1932 to 1941 show Briggs, Murray, Kercheval & Dodge as body suppliers, with wagons supplied by U.S. Body & Forging. One '34 build card I have for a PFXX two door shows a Budd body - and Budd was the body supplier to Dodge....if any of you have copies of the original build card from Chrysler for any year Plymouth and would be willing to send me a copy, I would appreciate it!
Thanks for the response. I have the sheet from the Chrysler museum on my car. Is that what you need? I will look and see what it says about the body.
