Title: Need pictures of plymouths, please add yours!
Post by: notdavidspade on January 30, 2008, 12:01:25 AM
I'm currently restoring my 41 wagon and I'm getting closer to the point where I'm going to need to decide on a paint color.  I'd appreciate everyone photos, either added to this thread or added to the members gallery already on this site.  If you have a picture and don't know how to list it, you can email me the picture or let me know if it is on photobucket.com or some other photo sharing site and I'll post it myself or walk you through posting.  Thanks in advance!!  Below is my short photobucket tutorial.

If you don't have a www.photobucket.com account yet, get one, and upload your pictures to it.  Its 100% free.

Once your pictures are there, you can link to them on this message board.
Just click on the IMG Code and it will "copy" the HTML code to your clipboard:
(https://www.plymouthowners.club/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi239.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff268%2F41woodie%2Fref%2Fphotobuckettutorial1.jpg&hash=98eb6740e3f662b90138ed01ca9c81be3191b602)

Then all you do is copy that text into your message and your picture appears when you click preview:
(https://www.plymouthowners.club/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi239.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff268%2F41woodie%2FDSCN2264.jpg&hash=17d4b377f87956bd9f492a80de12d92c85cbe545)

If you picture is too big it will be stretched out.  Scroll down to the HTML code and in this example, you would change the line:
img width=800 height=768]http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff268/41woodie/DSCN2264.jpg[/img
img width=800 height=600]http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff268/41woodie/DSCN2264.jpg[/img

(https://www.plymouthowners.club/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi239.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff268%2F41woodie%2FDSCN2264.jpg&hash=17d4b377f87956bd9f492a80de12d92c85cbe545)

Thanks!

Has your '41 woodie been listed with the Plymouth Owners Club master list of 40-41 wagons?

Are you looking for other 41s or any Plymouths?

In any case you can follow this link to see "Bluebelle"... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v76/JImCno/Bluebelle/April_2004_0598.jpg

Hi Jims,
Jim number 1, no I haven't listed my car with the wagon list yet.  Car is at the wood shop right now.  I'm going to see it Monday and will post pictures.  Let me know what you need for you list and I'll be happy to add my car.

Jim number 2, I'm looking for any and all Plymouths.   Of course 41s make it easier to visualize my car, but I'm looking for what the paint colors look like on the cars.  My ancient color chips really don't help much.  I've placed your car's picture in this tread, its a very nice car.  Do you know the name of the color? Thanks for your input and time.

Everyone else, if you have pictures of your cars, let me know where they are so I can add them.  The name of the paint color would be a big help too.  Thanks!!

When the club was founded 50 years, they began collecting the I.D. data of the cars to determine how many still exist.  The data included serial number, engine number and body number.  The list has proven beneficial over the years in documenting movement of the cars, helping recover stolen cars, etc.  All years have been included.  Some years ago the 1928 to 1942 cars were put on a computer data base but the system used is outdated and no longer accessible.  The data is slowly being converted to new "modern" data systems.  So, if you want your car registered, send the I.D. data listed above to the club's membership secretary (me) at the address listed on the officers page.

*snip*... but the system used is outdated and no longer accessible.? *snip*

Is it because the media is not readable (e.g. fixed sector 8" floppy drives) or because the format of the data is for some long abandoned program? If the later, I might be able to help. Of course, it might take me a long time to get the time to work on it. :)

Here's another view...

I'm not sure if the color of my car is original or not. It was re-painted back in the early 90s. If it is the original color, my guess would be Plymouth Blue, which according to the latest Plymouth Bulletin, is the same as a Ford Lombard blue.

Jim, do you have any idea if woodys may or may not have had a body number.  My car is missing that tag and all the reference pictures I have of other woodys from 41 do not seem to have the tag either.  Is this just a coincidence that the cars I have pictures of are missing tags, or do they just not have them??

I posted this answer to your question on the Plymouth Woodys bulletin board:

I am building my '41 Plymouth wagon from three and a half '41 wagons. None of those cars had a body number tag like the regular Plymouth cars had. I have been told that some owners of Plymouth wagons have found a USB&F "manufactured by" tag affixed inside the car but none of my cars had one. The only tags on mine are the red oval Plymouth tag on the firewall, the VIN number tag on the front passenger door post and a VIN number tag on on the bottom of the front seat frame.

As promised, here is an updated picture of my woody naked... better watch who I say that to...
(https://www.plymouthowners.club/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi239.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff268%2F41woodie%2Funwood.jpg&hash=8addb327ae5124319362a308593c27e00ad16461)

As I asked in a different thread, does anyone have an definitive answer as to whether or not a wagon should have a body tag on the firewall?  I have copies of a vehicle registration from 1974 when my great grandfather last had it registered.  Seems the ID number that they used is the one from the engine.  Is that number suppose to be repeated on a body tag?  There are some other numbers on the registration, I'll be able to compare them to numbers on the car when I get it back.  (we did find a numbered plate on the passenger side door pillar, haven't looked under the front seat as Jim Y. has stated)  All your information is greatly appreciated.

Congratulations on your successful 1300 mile excursion. My first car in high school was a '47 Plymouth Special Deluxe 4 door. Yours is in much better shape.

1998 during D?sseldorf Jazz Rallye I took a french band from central RR station to our downtown market place. The city hall (Rathaus) in the background is one of two remaining parts of the old palace of Graf Adolf zu Berg. The other is the Schlo?turm (tower), showing just one window in its white wall +tiny  part of roof just lookuing out above the ivy of the right gable wall. The balance burned down a couple of hundred years ago. Am very proud of a couple of newspaper fotos of my Plymouth! Greetings! Go

I have to say I really like that green Plymouth.? I'm leaning towards the dark green for mine.  Finally got my car back from the wood guy and I have pleanty of work cut out for me now.? Atleast it is now in my garage and I can turn some wrenches (very quietly) while my son takes his naps.? Thankfully the frame is very solid looking...

Here are my 2 1952 Belvederes.? The Sterling Gray/Belmont Blue one was my first car at age 16.? It was a leftover and purchased in April, 1953.? It is now in the final stages of a 4 year frame-off restoration.? The Black/Mint Green one was featured in the 2006 Autumn edition of Vermont Life Magazine after this photo was taken by them in Plymouth Vermont during the fall 2006 POC tour.

Open Your file with Photo Studio or any Photo program, save it e.g. as tmp file not to spoil Your original, choose "size of picture" (?? I have the german version saying "Bildgr??e") and than give in e.g. 50%, this will reduce the file size reasonably. Save again as e.g. tmp. It too helps to save as .jpg instead of .tif or .bmp,  latter being usually smaller .

Greetings! Go

Buddy, that is a very nice looking Plymouth you have.

The only thing that worries me is that it seems like everybody posting photos of their cars are in my age group. What's going to happen to our cars after all of us geezers pass away? Is there nobody out there under 40 interested in these old cars?

C'mon,I KNOW there has to be some of you younger people? out there! Post some photos of yourself and you cars to show us this hobby doesn't end when we do.

Click on the reply as yoiu did to post your last message, scroll down, you will see Additional options, click on that, then you will get an attachment area, click on browse, and that should be able to take you to where your photos are stored, double click on the photo that you want to post, then follow the rest of the directions.

I ain't the most computer smart person either, I hope I have explained it well enough for you.

Hi Bob, it's a '38 Buick Special. Have the motor out right now at a machine hop in New Bern, NC. Hope to have it rebuilt and back in the car by March or so. It's a complete rust free car, with the brakes redone and ready to roll. Would like to drive it this summer to local shows. Have admired your '40 coupe also Bob.

Hi Bob, here is the other side and the back. It's a completely original car, two owners with all the original paperwork. Original paint, interior and matching #'s for the engine. Rebuilt the braking system two years ago and the flattie runs nice. Have taken a couple of firsts in HPOF in local AACA shows. It's just fun to drive it and show it for what it gives back to the vintage car community. No thought of a restoration, too much fun this way. Did you finish your visor yet and is it back on the car?

Post by: Bob on December 26, 2008, 05:17:00 PM
Brian,

The '37 and '38 Buicks are one of the best looking cars from the late '30's if not the best in my mind

Nope, I haven't finished the visor as of yet, my son is working on a project, so at this point I don't have the room  He was given a cab from a 1935 Ford pickup, along with the radiator grille, headlight assembly, front fenders and running boards.  He wants to chop the top rougly 3 inches and put it on a two wheel drive S-10 frame.

Thanks for the kind words about my Plymouth, but believe me, the photos do it more justice, otherwise she is a 55 footer:):) but I drive her, this year just over 1700 miles.  Basically only two shows locally, then one cruise in about 20 miles east of here on Wednesday evenings

When you get a chance, could you email me some photos of the Buick, plus the dash and interior?

I like the dash on mine, but I think they did a better better job with the dash in the '41's

Thanks again,
Bob

I know Bob, looks good from 55' away. Don't be fooled they are all like that, I've got a little rust just in front of the rear fenders above the running boards that I want to fix but think I'll have trouble matching or blending the paint so I leave them for now. It will be a while for pics of the interior, I'm not home right now. Do you want the 38's interior or the 41's interior, couldn't figure that one out. I've seen you're from Nevasink, NY, not sure where that is although you've mentioned the Catskills. Had a friend near Oneonta years ago but he passed away about 15 years ago and I haven't been that way since. I'm an old Bronx boy myself, then moved to the Island in 76 and then to Brooklyn in 89 and then on to NC in 2001. Bought my car from a guy in Danbury, CT. He was some sort of politician and used the car to transport voters for some 30 years. Had been sitting for a while by the time I got it but hauled it to NC, a little compound and wax, some mechanicals and well you see the end result. Nice chatting with you. Looks like we have some great cars in this club. By the way have a great New Year.
Brian

Brian,

Neversink is located in the western Catskills.  We are 50 miles southwest of Kingston, 10 miles east of Liberty, and roughly 20 miles northeast of Monticello.  An hour west of the PA border.

Oneonta is less than two hours north of us.  There was a point in my life when I drove thru Oneonta twice a day to go to work, but that was over 30 years ago.

I was stationed on Long Island at Montauk Point for almost a year and a half at a radar squadron there from July of '69 until Oct of '70

When the time comes, sure would enjoy photos of the interiors of both cars, if it isn't too much of a problem.

Danbury is less than two hours east of Neversink.  My wife and I were over there last year

When Danbury had the fair I attended it a couple of times, again that was over 30 years ago.

Happy New Year,
Bob

Hi Bob, know the area well, use to go to a place called Smallwood just outside Monticello as a kid. Uncle had a place there. Used to take 17 to exit 90 and run 30 up to rte. 28 once in a while to change the route to Merrit or Merrydale where my friend lived. Will get you pics of the interior as soon as I get back to the car.

It is a warm morning here abouit 32 degrees and overcast, so I decided to break the winter doldrums and fire up the old Plymouth.  I backed her out of the garage, parked her under the tree and let her run up to operating temp.
I wasn't able to take her out on the road as we had some freezing rain during the night, so the roads are all covered in salt.

I like the full hubcaps, but the other four are on my son Shane's '51 Chevy.

Happy New Year to everyone

This is a photo of my 1972 Duster Twister taken while I was stationed at Forbes AFB in Topeka, Kansas.  Other than the twister package, it had a 318 and a three speed floor shift with a bench seat.  I bought it from Jim Clark Plymouth in Topeka in November of 1971 when I came to Forbes from Alaska.  It is one that I now wish I had again.

I kept the Duster for three years, a good car.

While we're on the subject of A-bodies...

I bought this '74 for my wife a few years ago on eBay. It was $2800 with 28k original on the clock. It was the proverbial old lady's car, the old gal had won it in a raffle in '74. I added the Duster quarter panel appliques and the '67-69 A-B-body wheel covers, I think the A-body covers from the seventies are too inspired and generic looking (I do like the dog dish caps though).

My former Scamp twins...

'72 Petty Blue with 22k original, original paint, just a gorgeous little time capsule. Drove it back from Virgina beach two winters ago, paid $3500 for it (the deals/steals are still out there!)

'72 Tor-Red with 45k original I drove back from Denver in '07, sold last year. $4400 for this one, also with original paint. Another beautiful little A-body with old school Cragars on it: The ONLY aftermarket mag that looks good on ANYthing! It was really hard letting these go.

Drove this '69 back from San Fran in '07. 100 degree temps, black vinyl, no air; it was warm! It was weird driving through the salt flats at night and coming upon the raging, uncontrolled fires outside of Salt Lake. I only kept this one a few months, someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse. And here I always wanted a '67-69 notchback. Some day...

Small dent in the left wing.

Plymouth-guy,

I have to agree 100 persent.  If you plan to add custom wheels to any '60's or
'70's car, nothing looks as good as those "old school Cragars"  Nothing else
even come close to that look.

My three-on-the-tree '64 Valiant V-200 that was stripped to the bone. No safety belts, no driver's door mirror (I added one), one speed fan motor, radio delete, etc. Why wouldn't someone just have picked up a V-100? Anyway, 68k original for $900. I did the brakes, drove it for six months and flipped it. I do miss it.

The Green Pig, my old '71 SSP. Fun to drive, an old sow from Berkeley. It didn't fit in very well there in the liberal land of VWs, old Volvos and bicycles.

Post by: Go Fleiter on April 11, 2009, 11:10:47 AM
Yesterday, nicest spring weather, my lovely wife asked to make a Plymouth trip to Maastricht, NL, near Aachen, which allies occupied as first german city in 1945. Old downtown, no war destructions, on river Maas.

Foto shows dutch "Frank LLoyd Wright/ Bauhaus" influenced  brick style.
other shows parking problems.. everybody drives by bicycle in Holland.
2 hoiurs on land roads, 4 beautiful hours in the historical center, 1 hour 15 min. back on Autobahn.Lost power 1 mile from home.

Today phone calls with noise demonstration and diganosis: head gasket blown. Drove 20 mls to the shop (all down the mountains..) and he will fix for wednesday.

Trip to Innsbruck, Austria, in May is saved...

Greetings Go

Now that spring is arriving (we hope) here in Utah, maybe a photo of our two 1950 P20 Special Deluxe Club Coupes would be in order.  Maybe that will get the juices flowing and get us in the mood for another season of shows and cruising.  This year's project will be the completion of a 12' teardrop trailer to tow behind us.

Hi Ben,

Thanks for posting the pics of your U.S. 66 trip; I think your car is awesome. My first car in high school was a '47 4 door.
In 1997, we drove our '36 from Bloomington IL to Vinita OK and back on U.S.66, staying in the mom-and-pop motels and eating in the old diners. We took pics of the '36 on the Rainbow bridge, I bought a ball cap at the Old Route 66 cafe in Afton OK, where we had lunch on the way west, and of course, stocked up on souvenirs at Eisler Bros. Market in Riverton KS.

Thanks for the memories,
Pat O'Connor

Its terrific that my tread to see some pics of cars for ideas for paint has grown into this.? I've seen Plymouths of all years and many countries.? Sorry to say that I haven't painted my car any of your colors? :)? This is my best guess for a 41 green, based on old paint chips.? Its close enough for me.? The fine folks that helped me with it on the trailer liked the color too.? Keep on posting those great picks!

made a couple of Plymouth scores in the last few weeks:

first, a 31K original mile 72 Satellite, really nice 1-owner 318 car that is now my daily driver.? Despite coming from PA (I found it at Carlisle) it is absolutely rust free.? Nice bonus was that it came with its original bill of sale, window sticker and build sheet.? After going through it, I discovered it came with an 8 3/4 Sure Grip rear with 3.23s and HD 11" brakes but interestingly, no sway bar.

(https://www.plymouthowners.club/talk/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv240%2FRangerDan%2F000_1058.jpg&hash=ffb551ae071cf5f4486bf17bdc0effd54ed2c38e)

and a 68 Road Runner 383 4 speed bench seat post car that was a well-known street racer around Richmond in the 70s.? It went through several drivetrains throughout its life, including a Hemi at one time but there is a 440 in it now.? It was originally lite blue metallic with a painted white top and interior and the blacked out hood treatment so it was a pretty sharp car when it was new.? I will do a full rotisserie restoration on this one when Im done with my Charger.
