Title: '34 trunk coupe mat
Post by: Doran Johnson on December 28, 2007, 02:33:48 PM
Does anyone have any information on the '34 PE business coupe trunk mat.  The parts book shows two "rear compartment" mats, one for the front of the rear and another for the rear of the rear.  Beyond that, I'd just me guessing at the original layout and pattern.  It is probably the same or similar to a '33 coupe.  Thanks if you can help.

I am expanding this topic from the PE trunk mat to the entire trunk.  I am trying to get a correct restoration to my '34 PE Business Coupe trunk.  The following questions are copied and pasted from an email and may serve as a guide, but I welcome any responses and especially pictures.

First, the trunk mat.  The parts book shows two part numbers for PE Business Coupe, one for the "front" of the rear compartment and one for the "rear" of the rear compartment.  Does this mean separate mats, one mat for the lower area just behind the passenger compartment and another mat for the larger area closer to the back?  Do you know if these mats would be of the same material as the passenger compartment floor mat?  Does the "rear" trunk mat have a circular hole cut in it to go over the differential cover that protrudes up a little from the trunk floor?  Do you have any trunk or trunk mat pictures?

Second, what do you know about the finish on the wooden boards fastened in the trunk, one just behind the passenger compartment and the other going front to back along the trunk passenger side?  Should they be varnished or painted? black?

Finally, is insulation attached to the inside of the rear quarter panels from inside the trunk?  I think I've seen this on an unrestored PE.

As usual, I appreciate any advise or information you have on these topics.

Best Regards,  Doran
