If you are seriously contemplating these changes then you would be better off with standard components such as the Chrysler alternator and external electronic regulator and a slant six electronic distributor which requires only minor machine work and the substitution of the distributor shaft from the distributor in your car.  The down side is your six volt components such as the top motor, windshield wiper motor, radio , heater and overdrive controls which are all difficult ( but not impossible) to modify.   Believe me, simply replacing your V-reg with a new or rebuilt unit is the easiest fix.  All 6 volt Chrysler product regulators used from mid 1950 to 1955 are interchangeable and can be recognized by the battery terminal on the opposite side from the field and armature terminals.  I have found the original Autolite units to be very reliable but have had trouble with modern replacements.
