I own a 40 plymouth with the original flathead six with a 3 speed trans. I found a 40 chrysler new yorker with a flathead eight cylinder,with a 3 speed overdrive trans. The two transmissions are the same length. The bellhousings look the same. The only differance I can see is the speedo cable location is on the opposite side of the trans. I was able to snag the drive shaft, shift linkage,and speedo cable. Does anyone know if this will be a sure swap. Thanks
You will have some electrical issues to deal with solenoid and governor for the hookup.? Some of the earlier ones were a little simpler then the ones from the 50's.? There is quite a lot of OD knowledge on the P15 D24 ( 46 through 49 Dodges and plymouths but lots of other years and mopar brands welcomed and discussed) board;

you might want to post your question there.
As a point of interested, if you are interested in showing your Plymouth at POC events for judging, this modification will cause judging points to be deducted.
I have a 1940 Chrysler OD in my P-15. Works fine. Had to swap shifter arms and get a new speedo cable. Love it. Bob
