Title: '85 Gran Fury Rear Speakers
Post by: Tettster on September 14, 2007, 06:05:01 PM
Hello, all, I'm new to the board.

I'm not sure if anyone will be able to help me since my vehicle is "new" compared to most of the posted ones here, but I have a question about replacing the rear speakers in my 1985 Plymouth Gran Fury.

I bought replacement 6" x 9" speakers already and I am going to install them myself.  I've already replaced the front speakers and the stereo itself, but have come across a problem regarding the rear speakers:

I can't get to them.

I would greatly appreciate help on the subject if anyone has it to offer.

Regards,
Tettster

Tettster,
I am not familiar with this car, but can you get the back (vertical part) of the back seat out?
Most come out by first removing the bottom of the back seat.  Usually, you push the very
bottom of the rear seat bottom towards to rear of the car, lift up, then pull forward.  The
back of the rear seat should be bolted to the floor pan.  After you unbolt it, push it up, then
lift out.  Then, you should have access to the rear package tray.  Most trays are just held in
place by the rear of the rear seat back and the rear window rubber seal.  Good luck.

I'll have to try that when I get a chance this weekend.  Thanks, Bill!

I had this problem on a Z-28 once.  I used the old package tray as a template and made a new one out of 1/4 inch plywood while it was out.  I glued tar paper to the back to keep it from rattling.  I cut out the speaker holes, and covered the whole thing in speaker cloth so the speakers were hidden.  It looked pretty nice when it was done.
