Title: 1934 Plymouth PG
Post by: md11hud on July 11, 2007, 02:19:08 PM
My dad just bought a 1934 PG two door sedan. The hood sides have the multiple louvers instead of the few louvers and then three vents like the PF and PE, so I believe they are correct, however, we cannot figure out how the hood is supposed to hinge on the top. The two sides end at the top with what I would describe as an open "P" shape, and my guess is there is a "C" channel they go into to make the hinge work. Unfortunately, in the parts we got with the car, there is no channel or piece that makes sense to use here. The earlier Plymouths we have seen at shows have a regular rod that goes between the hood sides to make them hinge, but this setup does not seem like it would work on this car. The pictures we have found for 34's show a chrome (or probably stainless steel) center strip on the top of the hoods. Is this the "C" channel that makes the hood hinge correctly? If so, any ideas on where we might find a reproduction?

It looks like the only other piece we are missing is the tri-angular stainless trim on the grill shell that goes just below the sailing ship hood orniment. Any leads to this piece would be appreciated.

Thanks, Mike

Actually the PF hood looks pretty much the same as the PG hood. My 1934 parts book is the early edition and does not cover PG so I don't know if the numbers are the same for PF and PG or not. The PE is the one with the horizontal doors on the rear.

You are correct about a chromed "C" channel that the hood pieces slide into. The "C" channel sits on a couple of saddles and is held in by a cap piece front and rear. The one vendor I knew that used to carry that stuff passed away a number of years ago. The first vendor I would contact on the hood hinge pieces ("C" channel, end support saddles and end caps) would be N/C Industries. It has been a while since I have dealt with them and their current focus seems to be on windshield frames, but they used to carry items like that:

They did not make very many PG Two Door Sedans. That is probably a fairly rare car:

The PF & PG hood are the same.  Another source for the center hood channel is (was)  Mack trucks!  Some of their models had the center hinged hood.
