Title: Betty Boop
Post by: RC Drown on June 22, 2007, 01:48:22 PM
My Father is almost 81 years old, he was telling me that he remembers one of the automakers using Betty Boop in their ads showing the slope of the rear of their cars back in the late 30's, maybe early 40's.

Does anyone out there in "Plymouth Land" have any ideas?

Dad doesn't remember just which car it was.

If someone knows and has a copy of the magazine ad showing her and the car I would appreciate an email copy of it.

Thanks,
Bob

1930s Hudson Essex Terraplane.   Try a Google search, it should come up.

I have tried Google with no luck.

Sure wish I could fine something.

I even emailed Walter Miller in Syracuse, but no response from him as of yet

It works OK today maybe your IP is giving you problems. Just Google -? Betty Boop Essex Terraplane-? and it will come up with a URL for the a "1930s Essex Terraplane Auto Ad". It loads as a 'You Tube' video file. (It's actually a sub URL for your main Google search called '87K Supplementary Results'. 87K is the size ,in bytes, of the actual file.) There are several video shorts in the right hand border of the site including Plymouth video ads from long ago. It also has 2 original videos of the internment of the '57 Tulsa Belvedere on that day in 1957. If the Plymouth videos don't show up in the border just go down to the bottom of the screen and find the 'SEARCH' box and put in? 'plymouth'. You Tube will then give you everything it has in it's memory for Plymouths. There's also the burying of the Prowler prototype in 1998. (You Tube seems to juggle the available videos it has and the border previews rotate through all the available on-site videos as you visit the site from time to time so that's why you may have to do a specific search for Plymouths.) Let me know if you still have problems.

i was able to bring up the Terraplane video, but wasn't able to find any ad that included Betty Boop with the car or in fact any car from that time frame.

Oh well, maybe there isn't such an ad that used her to show the streamline design of the car
