Title: thermostat
Post by: Cliff54 on May 25, 2007, 06:44:27 AM
Hi Guys,
Yet another question about my 54 Savoy. I have a 190 thermostat and I am wondering if there is a 175,160 or something there abouts? I notice that the ol flathead 6 runs WARM but not HOT.  I would really like to keep her a little cooler in those 100+ degree
Texas summer days.

Any Ideas?

I don't remember if the 54 still had the bypass type thermostat or not. That would make a difference on availability of thermostats.

My non-bypass style 1933 thermostat housing is sized such that I can find thermostats that fit at my local "bubble pack" auto supply store. I am running a 160 degree but the engine runs cool, it seldom goes above 140 degrees on the dash gauge (which I calibrated). I probably ought to put in a 180. . .
