The front seat in my 29 was in really bad shape.? The covering is very old but OK.? The spring bed was the real problem and in need of repair.? In order to sit in the driver?s seat, you needed folded blankets to get a proper seat height.

When I removed the seat covering I exposed a spring bed with two busted springs and a frame so rusty that it was missing sections.? I purchased a piece of pegboard and a piece of quarter inch plywood.? I cut out the top and bottom shape of the seat frame and attached the pegboard on the top portion of the seat.? I secured the ends of the remaining frame to the pegboard with small tie wraps.? Also were needed.., I tie wrapped the springs into position.? Once the springs were secured to the pegboard I installed one-inch upholstery foam between the pegboard and the seat cushion material.

Once the spring bed was fitted back into the seat cover I took left over cushion foam from another project and stuffed the spring bead.? The purpose is to add spring to the springs and keep them in the correct place.? Like the way a mattress is built.? I also relined the sides with batting material.? Where the springs were broken I tie wrapped the broken springs together and added additional foam to shore up the area.? I installed the plywood bottom in the same fashion as the pegboard but drilled holes where necessary to anchor the spring bed to the plywood..? To finish up I stapled the seat cushion material to the plywood.

It worked great, looks good and no more blankets to prop up the driver.

Almost ready for those summer drives,? Just need to finish up with the differential and clean the oil pan.

I planned on doing to both but the flights in and out of Tulsa are not convenient.? Two much air and connection time.? ?I was going to fly in Friday morning and check out the unveiling then the open show on Saturday.? (I have lots of flyer miles)? Get to meet some of the West Coast contingent but needed to fly out early Saturday evening to get home for the Sully Plantation show on Fathers Day.
I have already pre registered for the Sully Show.? ?I am counting on having the car ready to participate.? If you are not in Tulsa stop by.? I might need somebody to help me push the car if the motor quits.? Actually both my Daughters have been planning on the Sully thing for quite some time.? ?Somebody needs to show the Model A group that there were other cars around in 1929 besides Fords and these cars are still around.
There is no Plymouth Class just Class equal to ?Other to 1931?.? There are 4 classes for Model A fords.? I guess because they are so common.? ?I will probably be the only Plymouth there.? I would also like to run into a pre 30?s Chrysler.? Maybe.., I think the field will accept 500 cars.? Should be fun, there is a swap meet section if you are looking for Model A parts?, If so you will find them there.

I will be at Sully (without my car) with the Capital District Chapter of the National Woodie Club. We are usually located in the shady section to the left of the mansion house as you face it from Route 28. I will look for you and your car on the field. I find the swap meet is usually kind of disappointing to me, slim pickings on automotive parts.
Looking forward to seeing you there. Last year Rodney had his Plymouth on the field, hope he returns this year.

Jim - I don't think I ever got any photos of your 40 woodie after you finished it. Hint - hint! Also - out of curiosity - does your car have the USHCO body plate centered over the liftgate on the inside roof panel of the car? Or were you the one who sent me the photo of the plate? Sometimes forget to mark who photos have come in from....

Actually I have a '41. I would like to send you pictures of the finished car but unfortunately it is not yet finished. I am in the process of painting the fenders and hood prior to installing them.
Neither my car nor the parts cars I acquired had the USHCO badge. I think Jim Dugue had one on his 1940. Maybe he is the person who sent you the picture.
