Do u know of any one that has a shifter cable for 1939 plymouth my cable snapped  NIck thanks paul

My remote gearshift cable is very sluggish on my column shift 39 P8 Plymouth. It shifts easily in 1st and reverse but sometimes it takes 5-7 seconds to shift into 2nd. Once in second, it always goes into 3rd. Is there a remedy to free it up more? The shop manual just discusses how to adjust it but there is no mention of any servicing of it. Thank you. Nick
