I haven't checked back for awhile,  I wanted to thank all for the comments. I've given up on this job this summer.

Were these grills chromed or nickle plated, the shell on mine is chrome but the grill has that strew tinged look more like nickle, just a thought can't get to my parts manual at this time.

The literature I have indicates that all exterior brightwork is chrome while all interior brightwork is nickel.

Robert if I can be of any further help just ask, mines slowly going back together, just applied for UK licence plates, our system is to change come May and easier at the moment.

Thanks so much Tom and Tod for the invaluable information and pictures. I have an excellent mechanic, but I was just trying to get an idea how difficult it would be if I attempted to remove it myself. Sounds like a job for my mechanic. Again, thanks so much for the help. As I stated earlier, I'm so thankful for the POC. I've always received such great and knowledgeable help from it's members!!

Fenders don't need to be removed to get the shell off.

Last time I had the shell off was when I had to get the radiator recored. IIRC, I pulled the shell and radiator as one assembly. I think, but am not sure now that I look back on it, that you can remove the shell without removing the radiator. Tricky part is the screws between the shell and radiator that are under the anti-squeak welting but it turns out that should be loose enough to move aside to get to the screws.

Thinking back on what I said about removing the Rad I am now wondering if it will clear the top edge of the sheĺl. May be that a fender has to be removed before removing the shell/grill assembly. Good luck.

If I recall correctly, the strap like thing at the bottom of the grill gets riveted to the shell. And, again IIRC, that is made pretty inaccessible because it is where the fender matches up to the shell.

Here is the little hook that is part of the shell which holds the center of the grill in place.

Please take in account that I have never seen a PD assembled, mine came as a rolling stalled restoration, have taken the photos that I think will help but feel it might not be possible to remove the grill on it's own. I'm not sure what the grill fixes to at the 11 1/2" ctrs. holes, there is no way that the grill can move forward of the shell to clear the front face of the radiator, the only way would be to remove the rad completely. The 2 tabs which Tod mentioned earlier which are at the ends of the horizontal bar half way up the grill, mine have both been broken off (silver solder job are my thoughts) Regarding the Emblem I think the fixing is above the grill, the shell has a square hole where it fits. At the bottom there are fixings which possible go through the shell and into the fenders.

Thank you Tod and Tom for the responses. I'm hoping I don't have to remove the radiator shell to get the grill rechromed. Finally, yes Tom, I would appreciate your input after examining your parts. I haven't been on the POC site for awhile, but I can always depend on fast and accurate assistsnce from members. I'm still driving and enjoying my PD coupe. Thank you!!

Robert, if it helps I can have a look tomorrow both the shell and grill are apart.

You will have to take the whole radiator shell off to get the grill separated.

It has been a while since mine was out but if I recall correctly there is a screw that holds the medallion at the top of the shell that also helps secure the grill. In addition, the grill is held along the sides by bent over metal tabs that are part of the shell (be careful when handling these as they can easily break in which case you'll have to either do some welding on your shell or figure out some other way to get things to stay together).

And, of course, getting the whole shell/grill assembly off requires removing the hood. I've done that by myself, but it is a lot easier to do that without damaging the paint if you have an assistant.

I'm planning on getting the grill on my 33 plymouth coupe rechromed. Does anyone know if the grill can be removed without removing the radiator trim piece. I'm hoping it can be removed down and out from under the trim piece and bumper when on a lift. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
